I don't know why but the last few series I have read lately all have the same issue. After several books the author seems to think that 75% of the content needs to be repeatedly explaining why the main character is just so awesome. By 30% of this book I was pissed because nothing happened, just page after page of virtue-signaling, only instead of making him sound virtuous it was all about making him seem awesome in every possible way. Just a bunch of mindless fluff. By 50% the only thing happening was him going after a general who was blocking people from a restricted world. The first half of the book might as well be him constantly and mindlessly talking about how good he is at math while he audits someone for some minor tax offense. It's a huge fall from saving the world and stuff like that. In a universe with uncounted cultures we are supposed to enjoy reading about a corrupt general. That's like writing a superman or avengers book but instead of them doing something really important they focus a large part of the book on superman going after people who didn't pay their parking tickets. The end of the book was pretty good and is the only reason why this not a 1 star review. The main character has gotten so incredibly powerful that really nothing can harm him. If he gets transported into a huge room with an army of 10,000 advanced and 5,000 master class people and has no way to escape you can be sure that he will easily defeat them, not because of skills and power but because his anger or focus or will is just so great? The most focused man on earth and the man with the most will and has the greatest anger, who is 110% focused and committed to killing a male lion unarmed will do no better than someone who is just being paid to do so. I dislike in books when say someone is losing and then their enemy makes a hurtful remark about their GF or mother or wtv and somehow a surge of retard anger breaks all of the rules of reality. The character takes himself far too seriously and the author spends much of the book talking about how great he is, in one way or another, It's kind of like the latest Reborn book, which is one of the worst books ever. It's just constant reminders of how the character does everything better than everyone else and is so epically precise and perfect at everything. If he is facing 50 god-like beings who are all faster and stronger than him he will somehow tap each one with a finger and knock them out within a second or two and without them landing a hit. If several people who are faster than you and are in the process of punching you, how on earth can your arm be quick enough to tap each on the chest as their fists are flying at your face? That Reborn book was total trash, an obvious middle finger to fans and a way to greedily squeeze money out of us while offering nothing in return. This book could have been better - could have been much less dull and repetitious - but overall I liked the ending a bit and will wait for the next one, which I hope isn't just 500 pages of the author kissing the main character's backside and stroking his...ego. . What made this series special to me disappeared several books ago. Redeemer of the dead meant something to me. How he got the title meant something to me. Everything he gained in the beginning and how he got it was special and he was special but as flawed on a deep level we could all feel. The author tried to bring some of that special back in the end of this last book but honestly he has lost the core of what made this a special series.
