This book is going to get a lot of gushing reviews, and it's all the things they say and more. There is no other romance out there like it. I personally love a book that makes me think about the world from a different perspective, and Oryn's is about as different as it gets. The gentle friendship and eventually love between all of these characters in palpable. We learn right along with Vaughn how to see each of Oryn's alters as an individual and to love each of them for their own selves. How is that possible? What storytelling witchery does Nicky James possess that allows her to open this complicated world so clearly and with such kindness? This book may be a work of fiction but it could do a whole lot to advance people's understanding of the complexities of mental illnesses, and how the people who are afflicted with them still deserve to feel loved and welcomed in world that may not take the time to see them clearly enough. This is now permanently in my top five books to constantly recommend to non-romance readers. It is the new gold standard. It's kind of hard to know what to say about this one, because it is not just a story, it's an experience.It's not a whirlwind romance, it's a slow-burning story about finding love and finding acceptance even if you don't find yourself worthy.The author really did their research with this one and I felt they did Oryn's condition justice (at least to my knowledge about DID).It takes a little while to get into but once Vaughn starts to understand Oryn's condition and started bonding with his alters, I found the story very captivating and I had a hard time putting it down.I really didn't want it to end and I cannot recommend it enough.
