This was a fabulous read. I had a hard time putting down Rainbow Diner, and yet I enjoyed it so much I didn't want to finish it! The more I read, the more I wanted to reach into these pages, grab little Astrid, wrap my arms around her, and hug her. I wanted to do the same with little Benny. Tears flowed and laughter ensued as I walked through these early years with both Astrid and Benny. This memoir was a beautifully written, colorful, page turner. Honestly, I cannot wait for the follow up to this book. In the not too distant future, I am sure I will re-read Rainbow Diner, as it is so rich, it deserves a second, and even a third read while I am waiting for the next book. Well done! Thank you for writing this memoir. Astrid and Benny grow up living with mom and dad on 2 different coasts. Mom in California, and dad in New York.They experience the extreme moods of mom along with her free spirit, drug and alcohol use and intense fighting with her partner. After being with mom during the school year they fly to dads place where they learn what it’s like to have a gay dad who loves to dance and entertain for each summer.
